Winn leads timber value
Winn Parish ranked first in Louisiana in value of harvested timber for the year 2011, according to figures released earlier this year by the office of Wade Dubea, State Forester, Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry. Severance taxes collected on timber harvested in Winn were also highest, the LDAF report showed
Winn's 2011 timber harvest value was $38,385,514, and severance taxes collected were $893,593.
The top ten parish totals ranked in order following Winn in timber harvest and collected severance tax value were the parishes of Sabine, Vernon, Beauregard, Allen, Natchitoches, Union, Jackson, LaSalle, Rapides.

The state of Louisiana total timber harvest in 2011 was valued at $446,904,740, based on 64,427,352 total board feet of timber, with severance taxes of $12,101,456 collected.
Most valued harvest was pine sawtimber, at $240,449,323 total, followed by hardwood sawtimber, $31,527,201; pine pulpwood, $91,145,968; hardwood pulpwood, $10,273,654; and chip n' saw, a category of smaller trees partially sawed into lumber, and partially chipped, at $73,508,584.
