Piney Woods Journal back home in Dodson location
By Tom Kelly
The Piney Woods Journal is now relocated in Dodson, Louisiana, its original "hometown," in the former S.H. Gaar & Son Groery building at 102 South Third (U.S. Highway 167).
Located in the building with The Journal will be the Louisiana Hill Country Museum, including displays of the Louisiana Loggers Hall of Fame, The Piney Woods Bookshelf, plus various documents, photographs, and artifacts related to the history of the Dodson community and the North Louisiana Hill Country.
While space and exhibits for the museum and Hall of Fame are still in process of being set up, the public is invited to visit, and also to submit material for display. Family histories, church and school histories, photographs, and other items are welcome.
The Museum will be in contact with area crafts makers to secure locally made items for sale.
The Piney Woods Bookshelf has become a popular department, offering local and regional books by local authors, for sale by mail and in person at the local office. Authors are invited to submit books to be included in the sale offerings. Preference is given to local and regional history, culture, personalities, and special events.
Other offerings will include souvenirs, special food items, and memorabilia representative of the region which will be of interest to tourist guests as well as local area residents.
