Retired Tech forestry Director John Adams dies

Funeral services for Dr. John C. Adams, 64 of Ruston, were held at 10:00 AM Friday, November 16, 2012 St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Dr. Adams was a former direector of the School of Forestry at Louisiana Tech University in Ruston.

Officiating the service will be Fr. Frank Folino, OFM and Rev. Brian Mercer. Burial followed at Pines Memorial Cemetery in Ruston under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. Dr. Adams was born December 11, 1947 in Angie, LA to Clyde and Winnie (Pope) Adams. He was an officer in the Marine Corps and served a tour of duty in Vietnam.

Afterwards, he attended Louisiana State University where he earned a bachelor's, master's, and PhD in forestry. In 1976, Dr. Adams moved to Ruston where he became a professor and later served as a Director in the School of Forestry at Louisiana Tech University. Dr. Adams passed away on November 14, 2012 in Ruston, following a sudden illness. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Sandi Adams; his son, Dr. Joshua Adams and wife Dr. Heidi Adams; his daughter, Mallary Adams; granddaughter: Mary Virginia Adams; sister: Margie and husband Frankie Allen of Covington, In-Laws Mary and Herman Manuel, brother-in-law David Manuel and wife Ginger, all of Ruston, sister-in-law Colleen Manuel and husband Carey Cox of Fort Worth, TX, as well as several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church Building Fund or the Louisiana Tech University School of Forestry Scholarship fund.
