Forestry Association meets in Shreveport

Louisiana Forestry Association holds its 67th annual convention in Shreveport August 26-28, at Sam Town Hotel & Casino. A full schedule of social and professional events is announced for the three-day event--the largest annual affair that brings together all elements of the Louisiana forest industry for a review of issues, progress reports, and planning for growth.

First on the program is a day of socializing, on Tuesday, August 26. Included are a golf at the Golf Club at Stonebridge, a clay shoot at the Shreveport Gun Club, and beginning of registration. Capping the first day is the President's Social, honoring LFA President David Cupp.

Wednesday, the main business day, starts with the general session at 9 a.m. Presenters announced are:

Pete Stewart, Founder, President and CEO of Forest2Market, a specialized publication on special issues in the forest industry. The convention program says Stewart "is an expert on the wood supply chain," having developed databases on the wood markets in the U.S.

Lynn Wilson, Executive vice President of Forest Resources for Rayonier, the forest products company. She is a member of the company's senior management team with responsibility for 2.6 million acres of timberland in nine U.S. states and New Zealand.

Shawn Baker is a research coordinator with the Center for Forest Business at University of Georgia's Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources. His research includes biomass harvesting system evaluations, trends in harvesting, and understanding changing demographics in the U.S. logging industry.

Brett Butler is a Forestry Inventory Analysis Research Forester with the US Forest Service in Amherst, Massachusetts. He is also i charge of the National Woodland Owners Survey.

Later on Wednesday are a series of meetings including Association of Consulting Foresters, Louisiana Logging Council.

On Thursday morning, the TImbermen's Breakfast is scheduled at 9 a.m., with new LFA officers announced. Speaker is Pete Stewart of the Nitty Gritty Industry Forecast.
